Southwest Chinese Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a full time English Minister who is passionate about the spiritual health of the members of the congregation whose primary language is English. The English Minister will ultimately be accountable to, and work with the Senior Pastor in developing strategies and programs to accomplish the mission of the whole church, and assist the church body to grow in their faith and discipleship toward spiritual maturity. The English Minister will shepherd and provide guidance to our English speaking members in the congregation, many of them second and third generation American-born Chinese. Accordingly, one of the major tasks of this position is to provide “hands on” leadership in the fields of his expertise, while providing leadership and motivation to members in all areas of ministry. The second major task will be to help bridge the gap among different generations and cultures..

 

Southwest Chinese Baptist Church (SWCBC)ministers to approximately 275 members and visitors. Approximately 75 members have English as a primary language or do not speak Cantonese.  SWCBC is currently associated with the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), Baptist General Convention of Texas (BGCT) and Union Baptist Association (UBA).

Job Description: In all areas of ministry the English Minister will be accountable to the Senior Pastor and guided by the mission statement of SWCBC.  The focus of the English Minister in this endeavor is to oversee the ministry of, and shepherd the English-speaking members of the congregation. He will lead and implement fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, evangelism opportunities, as well as ministry and mission opportunities for an effective ministry. It is also his responsibility to develop short and long-term goals and plans for the English Ministries.

 

Minimum Requirements:

·         Must be a born again believer with a maturing relationship with Christ.

·         Must show a faithful pursuit of leadership characteristics as listed in 1Tim.3.

·         Must have a strong desire to serve God in the position.

·         Must be able to minister under the leadership of the Sr. Pastor.

·         Education: A graduate from an accredited evangelical seminary with a Master’s Degree.

·         Experience: A minimum of 2 years’ experience in ministry.

o    Prior experience with multi-cultural groups is a plus.

o    Prior experience with youth ministry is a plus.

o    Prior training and experience in evangelism and outreach is a plus.

·         Must be able to preach, teach, train, and disciple workers in the various areas of English ministry.

·         Must demonstrate genuine love, maintain a good rapport with people, and promote unity among all members of SWCBC.

·         Must subscribe to the Constitution and doctrinal statement of the church. He must become a member of the Southwest Chinese Baptist Church upon acceptance of the calling and must maintain such membership while serving Southwest Chinese Baptist Church.

·         Must possess organizational and administration abilities.

 

Key Responsibilities: The primary goal is to foster participation and motivate members in discipleship.  Accountable to the Senior Pastor, the English Minister will encourage the integration of English speaking members into the life of the church through fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and evangelism, as well as ministry and mission opportunities.  (For clarification purposes Youth Ministry is for Middle-School students through High School Seniors.  Adult English ministries are for English College and Young Adult Career age members, as well as Adult English-speaking members and families.)

·         Worship:

o    Combined Sunday Morning Adult and Youth Worship

o    Primary preacher for English services, but available to preach at both services.

·         Youth Ministry:

o    Foster open communication with parents/guardians and lay leaders.

o    Seek to integrate Junior High and High School student ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally intergenerational and intercultural, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries.

o    Communicate to the congregation the challenges, opportunities, and successes of student ministry, thereby inspire and mobilize lay members of the congregation to become involved with our students.

·         Fellowship:

o    Assess fellowship needs and provide leadership training for fellowship leaders.

·         Missions/Evangelism:

o    Encourage the integration of English speaking members into the life of the church through evangelism and outreach, as well as ministry and mission opportunities.

·         Christian Education:

o    Sunday School Teacher training.

o    Evaluate materials and programs.

·         Training:

o   Identify staff/lay volunteer resources and needs for English-speaking ministries.

o   Overseeing recruitment, training and development of ministerial staff/lay leaders for English-speaking ministries.

o   Conduct ongoing evaluations of ministry activity and performance within English-speaking ministries.

o    Develop a team atmosphere that is safe, supportive, and cultivates spiritual growth.

·         Conduct individual, couple, and family counseling or refer church members to professional counseling as needed.
